A Battle of Horsemen!

There was the ORIGINAL GANG...

THE FOUR HORSEMEN - circa 1990

And there was the revival group:
The Extreme Horsemen!

The Extreme ones are like the Musketeers, see:
they're either 3 or 5... sometimes 4... up to 6 even!
They simply cannot count!
Well - there are referees for that!

(We'll just ignore those other attempts,
this time out:

...see - they ALL wanna be Horsemen!)

(Truth be told, Ric Flair didn't help in this: he was part of two
of the attempted revival factions! What the hell, Ric?
Don't you know that you cannot recapture lightning in a bottle
TWICE... much less THRICE!
And don't you even think about it FOUR TIMES!
Wooooo! Granted, fellow original Horsemen
{înducted into a Hall of Fame with him} J.J. Dillon
and "Widowmaker" Barry Windham
were also seen aiding the revival we focus on today...
This "extreme" one, aye...
But that's another story... and a sad one, at that.)

Based on all the carnage
(that is available to peruse, at this time)
which wild bunch of Horsemen
would have made Peckinpah proud?
HUH - LOL

Peek and see:

....
....
....
....
//// well, yeah: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - they say...////

But, no, really...
though they tried so hard
and gave it their darn best,
these independent "Extreme"
(alternatively known as "Xtreme" - duh)
Horsemen never measured up:
C.W. Anderson not being a real Enforcer
(never mind a real Anderson: even Arn isn't!)
Simon Diamond never matching up
with the sheer "heel coolness"
perfected by Tully Blanchard...
and as for the former
- Justin Credible -
well... he's another X-Pac,
at best.
And that is no compliment!

Steve Corino thought he was
Ric Flair's heir apparent.

Well...

A lot of other guys thought
the exact (Xact?) same thing:
and they all fell considerably short!
(Buddy Landell, Jeff Jarrett, Curt Hennig, Shawn Michaels, Terry Taylor, Stan Lane, Bob Backlund, Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Bobby Eaton, Dolph Ziggler, Bobby Roode, Chris Jericho, Terra Ryzing - to name but a few!)

We won't even get into
Xtreme members
Ricky Landell,
John Skyler (Schuyler?)
Jeff Lewis Neil,
Damien Wayne,
plus Windham and Dillon themselves!

JJ Dillon wanted to recapture this so bad:

... with this, in the alleged MLW - and elsewhere:

... they hit HARDER, they said?
Uh... no - not really!
Look at Ric Flair's punching power -
in evidence right here:

Uh... okay, that was kayfabe!
(another word for "make-believe"
- you poor uninitiated soul!
Forgive them, Ric!)

Woo!

BETTER RING GENERAL
BETTER ENFORCER
BETTER HORSEMEN
THE ORIGINAL GANG OF FOUR!

... and, next time, we compare them to this

LOL

Uh... UPDATE time, yeah:

For, since blogging time here, there have been... shall we say OTHER DEVELOPMENTS?

Tully Blanchard spearheaded (!) yet another revival of the concept - even invited old man JJ Dillon to come out - in the middle of a pandemic and all - and be there for the official unveiling of the faction, so to speak...

INDEED...
when tag-team specialists FTR (Dax & Cash) teamed up with Tully himself for a special match on AEW Dynamite (the first time Tully had wrestled in about 30 years - had to be during the second wave of the pandemic, in 2021 - great timing, Tully!) the former consultant and manager of the Horsemen (as of "Tully Blanchard Enterprises" circa 1985!) JJ DILLON himself, was there...!

And then a surprise assailant came in and turned the tide in favor of Tully and FTR - it was Shawn Spears, Blanchard's protégé.

When the victory was sealed, they all embraced in the center of the ring - and it reeked of OLD-TIME, CLASSIC FOUR HORSEMEN!

Even better - ARN ANDERSON came out and showed his approval with a hint of nostalgia on top - by flashing the four fingers sign - THE SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE!

Now, Arn remains associated with the Nightmare Clan (or family or whatever they're called - basically American Nightmare Cody Rhodes and his entourage! ARN is the COACH of that clan!) but it was already crystal-clear that AEW wanted to REFORM THE FIRST GANG OF WRESTLING - RECREATE THE ELITE OF WRESTLING --- THE FOUR HORSEMEN!

And it would get even clearer soon enough...

The very next week, on AEW Dynamite (the fine successor to WCW Nitro, on TNT) this new faction came out, attacked and effectively wiped out "the Inner Circle" (Chris Jericho and his cronies)

They were further assisted in this by MJF and his bodyguard Wardlow - who both joined the new iteration of HORSEMEN (MJF, in his capacity as Ric Flair of service, becoming de facto leader of the group; his gimmick of rich guy among peasants does emulate Flair's very closely, of course)

And furthermore, the following week, they all come out and present themselves as... THE PINNACLE

Tully Blanchard, the pastor once and again wrestler, came up with the name - PINNACLE closely resembling Flair's attempts in both WWE and TNA (Evolution and Fortune) all the while being a far more judicious choice - and better name for such a faction!

Hopefully they win the feud with the Inner Circle - sending Jericho back to retirement with his tail between his legs - SOON!!!
